I think lowering the floor more than makes up for any loss of point value, but that's just me.

@matt comps picks are already only given to top players.

I mean like the best of the best..some of the players that got comp picks last year probably shouldn't have gotten them.

We had the unfortunate occurrence that the third round started nearly where the forth should have...It did have effect on picks traded for imo

Have you even looked at the rules.....That system was revamped....

He is refering to the fact that it is now only for best of best.

I also sent out a PM and Email about this.

Type A:

QB 1-5 in the previous season
RB 1-10 in the previous season
WR 1-10 in the previous season
TE 1-5 in the previous season
DE 1-10 in the previous season
LB 1-15 in the previous season

Type B:

DT 1-5 in the previous season
CB 1-10 in the previous season

I did read the rules thanks for asking! I don't see how some of the positions should get picks but its not important ill stay quiet!!

Aside from JJ Watt, DE's should not be worth 1st round comp picks. The only change I would suggest there would be to move DE's to Type B and move Safeties to Type A.

You did not mention the new system at all, this new system hasnt even been used yet. it was just put into effect this yr. So you have no clue how this system will work now do you.

as to some of the position not getting picks, generally speaking top 5 to 10 of that spot, ppl are going to go crazy over.

its worth looking into switching DE and S and making DE 1-5, CB 1-5

Anyone out there that knows anything about IDPs knows that the general priority, in the broadest sense, of IDP value goes LB>DL>DB.

DBs on average score more points, but the volatility of the position group makes DLs a better candidate for a better pick. I disagree with outright switching DE and S comp value. DE > S because of the stability of the position at the top. Every year there is a new Top 5 for safeties.

Though I understand concessions could be made. At worst, make both S/DEs 1-5 be awarded a 1st round comp and 6-10 a 2nd.

So if every year top 5 safeties are different why are we giving comp picks for them...the comp pick probably more valuable than the player gone because player gone can be replaced in FA. Comp picks at all make no sense to me.

If you lose say Fletcher Cox ( top 5 really only because of a late season surge) you get an end of first comp pick, his salary gone from your cap number, the chance to replace in FA AND a chance to resign said player...so you could get the comp pick and the player back!!

Alos how do incomplete seasons factor in ..what if you were losing Dez this season? ESPN doesn't do a true average...Jamie Collins was a top 3 backer this season but finished 15th due to an illness, does that get factored in...What if I have Khalil Mack and he was off? 14th total points as a linebacker number two DE (again total points)

Bad cornerback score more than good corner backs...but they probably do it just for one season. why are we comping CB at all?

the whole system doesn't work for me, it de-values draft picks you've traded for (if I've traded for a second round pick I'm thinking should be high to mid second I factor that into the deal. It then turns out that pick is worth 13 spots less I'm kind of annoyed and it probably cost us some decent players last year) but if we have to have it limit it

comp picks also dramatically slowed the draft last year because half the teams didn't realise they had them. I enjoy rookie drafts but this one last season was tortuous.

Compensation Pick Issues

I disagree with a couple GM's assessment of Comp Picks being a bad thing. The whole idea of using the Comp Pick system was to continue to make the league more competitive. The NFL uses a similar system. It doesn't dilute the draft. It's part of the draft. GMs just have to factor it into the equation which valuing their draft picks.

We substantially reduced the number of Comp Picks from last year and many of the Top 5 or Top 10 players don't become Free Agents in a given year. When your team looses a top player, the Comp Pick doesn't even come close to making up for the loss of the player. What am I going to pick up in the Rookie Draft between the 1st and 2nd Round that makes up for the loss of Matt Forte?

In my opinion it's a part of the fabric of our league and should stay. We should continue to fine-tune the number of picks by position, but the concept it great.

Completely unrelated to the compensation conversation, which is going great, I have a couple more ideas I need to get down before I forget.

There was an issue of people completely neglecting draft picks last draft which made the draft drag out WAY longer than it should've because we kept having to wait 24 hours for someone to not show up. Which is another big reason why last year's draft went so long, not just the additional picks. I suggest penalties such like cap and possible future picks for repeat offenders. But it's just an idea to be developed further if it interests the league.

My second idea is to open up the draft to being able to draft all eligible scale players. It could help the minor inflammation of picks brought on by comp picks.

they limit the picks and spread them around mainly around the third round onward ...I can't remember the last time they allowed 13 picks at the bottom of any round especially the first and in the NFL if you replace a leaving FA with an incoming one of equal value you don't get a comp...not that this league mirrors the NFL that closely 

Also GM's can't factor in what they won't know till probably too late. 

and again we're happy to not have the comp pick if Mark Barron is not resigned in time
