Why isn't this a paid league?

Hi all,

Just a question. Why isn't this a paid league?

I understand that there is a disparity in roster quality across the league, but if you are committed to being in this league for multiple years, it makes sense to have it be paid. I am advocating for a paid league as someone who inherited the worst roster/cap/draft pick scenario, so I'm okay with losing my money for a couple years to the winner while I try and get my team figured out.


There is no trophy for this league. Most of the GMs (I assume) don't have more than one real-life relationship with the other GMs in the league (so it's not like you have the enjoyment of competing against your buddies). So especially in the age of Venmo and Zelle, it would be easier than ever. 

Finally, I'm not looking to ask anyone to break the bank. Even $20/season means that the winner gets $640 along with the bragging rights of being Super Bowl champ! I think this change would make the league better-run, more competitive, and give real compensation to the winner, who has put a lot of time and effort into managing their team. Let me know your thoughts.

I don’t think a 32 team league should be paid. I also don’t think that could switch to a paid league in a fair way when people expect this to be free.

I enjoy this league and love that it’s free and am thankful for the commishes and everyone in here but if it became a $20 thing I’d promptly be heading for the door.

I am all for $20 bucks to the winner...I think its a great call...less than $2 bucks/month for this much fun?! Are you kidding me?!

Another thing: how much is your time worth? Denver, we can all tell that you put a lot of time into planning your FA strategy, you've compiled a lot of high draft picks, don't you want to have the chance to be rewarded for all that? Also, we're talking about $20/season - that's not even forty cents a week. How often do any of us lose that on a hand of poker, a prop bet, or a couple of drinks for a girl we never had a chance with? I also enjoy this league, but I really think adding a concrete prize is something to consider.

While this is a valid point, this is my “escape league” that I use to just enjoy my time

I understand your questioning of a paid to not ay league! I think my roster is ten times worse than yours man so it is what it is! I would like to keep this as a non payer also

I feel like making it a paid league, whether the yearly dues would be $10 or $20 or some other number, would prevent a lot of the illogical high-roller moves we've seen lately like devoting over 20% of cap to a single receiver for 5 years or giving $5m/5y to John Ross. I do think that if most people are in multiple dynasties that having this be a free "break" from the stress of other paid leagues makes sense, but seeing as this is my only GM experience currently I'd definitely throw some cash every year to incentivize smarter decision-making and prompt dealings.

Just my 2 cents, happy to be here regardless.
