Waiver Wire:
A team may waive any player at any time during the season. However, some players come with a salary cap penalty for being waived. A player signed in free agency, extended, or tagged comes with a 50% penalty. This penalty can either be paid out annually, or assumed all at once (a "buyout"). If a player is claimed off waivers, the team that waived him does not pay the penalty. Player buyouts stop at the conclusion of the regular season. The only player contracts in which there is no penalty for waiving are rookie scale contracts. A retired player comes with a 50% penalty only in the current season.
Claims:
A team may claim a player who was waived by another team. Claim season begins immediately following the Blitz Rookie Draft, and concludes at the end of the playoffs. Claims must be made within 24 hours of the waive. The team with the highest waiver priority will win that player at 50% of the player's former salary for the duration of the contract. If a team is claiming multiple players at once, it must designate these claims with a priority number (1 being the highest). No priority number assumes the highest priority, and duplicate priority numbers on competitive waiver claims result in those claims becoming invalid. The waiver order is constantly updated to reflect a team's priority status within the league.
A team may claim a player who is in his fourth season or fewer of post-draft eligibility. A successful claim results in a rookie scale contract at the appropriate step. A rookie scale claim follows normal claim rules, but works on a different schedule. Nominations close for the week on Tuesday at 1 pm EST. Claims/priority changes close for the week on Wednesday at 1 pm EST. Rookie scale claims will be processed on Thursday, if not sooner.
Amnesty:
Each team receives one amnesty to use at any time. This is a free drop with no penalty regardless of contract type.
