Raising the Cap

With a rising NFL salary cap and contracts across the league, it's all but a forgone conclusion that we will need to raise our salary cap as well. It's currently $100M. 

I'm open to hearing other perspectives, but the number in my head is $110M. We may want to agree on increases in future seasons now too. $5M per season in 2024 and 2025 would be my first suggestion. So, $110M in 2023, $115M in 2024, and $120M in 2025.

only question is why wait 2 years to get to 120M? why not just raise it to that now?

While I think that making a huge jump will just cause inflated FA contracts, I'm really not against making the big jump now and being done with it. Probably more extensions will get picked up which will keep encouraging team building.

I would definitely support a move to 110, that feels right for a 40 roster league.

Extensions would the only reason to increase it higher, and while there aren't many of those, they are generally higher as teams are keeping their better players and not letting them hit free agency. The way teams take advantage of the cap I've noticed is they backload a lot of these contracts and then restructure to a lower number later on, which we can't take advantage of right now so accepting some of these contracts can be hard (see Brandin Cooks and paying his 13M/14M extension in 22 and 23). if we need a higher number to help with those I can get behind that, or change it where we can pick up restructures if the base salary changes.

Agreed with all of this. This was an inevitable discussion with the new CBA and the faster acceleration of player contracts. 5m a year is very sensible, likely from here on until the end of the CBA.
