THIS PROPOSITION IS BEING PUT ON HOLD. THE LEAGUE MANAGERS WILL DEVELOP A COMPREHENSIVE REVISED COMPENSATION PICK SYSTEM FOR THE 2019 DRAFT. WE WILL VOTE ON IT LATER IN THE PRE-SEASON.
Rationale: Compensation Picks are a difficult and complex balancing act that require careful consideration. You have to consider value for each position lost vs. the dilution of the normal rookie draft picks. We need to develop a comprehensive solution to this issue, not just apply another bandaid. More to come.
As things stand only teams losing TE and QB 1-5 from the previous year are awarded comp picks in the next draft. This is a Type A player so they are awarded a pick at the end of the first round.
There is then no comp picks for QB and TE 6-10. The other positions with Type A comp picks for ranking 1-5 are S and DE. These positions also have type B comp picks for rankings 6-10. QB and TE are arguably more important positions than S or DE and therefore should be compensated equally.
Current Rule:
Free agents will be classified as "Type A" or "Type B" after the season according to the player rater. The following is a breakdown of Type A and Type B free agents:
Type A:
QB 1-5 in the previous season
RB 1-10 in the previous season
WR 1-10 in the previous season
TE 1-5 in the previous season
DE 1-5 in the previous season
LB 1-15 in the previous season
S 1-5 in the previous season
Type B:
DT 1-5 in the previous season
DE 6-10 in the previous season
CB 1-10 in the previous season
S 6-10 in the previous season
If the player is not resigned by his former team and is a Type A or Type B free agent, appropriate compensation is awarded to the player's former team.
- Teams that lose Type A free agents are compensated with a pick following the first round of the following year's rookie draft.
- Teams that lose Type B free agents are compensated with a pick following the second round of the following year's rookie draft.
A YES vote for this proposition would: Add QB and TE 6-10 to Type B comp pick category.
This change would take effect with the 2019 season. One vote per GM. See previous comments at: blitzcentral.proboards.com/thread/5881/proposition-add-qb-comp-picks
